Prof Damien Hanyurwimfura has advanced AI and IoT research, postgraduate training and applied innovation in Rwanda for many years, securing grants and building capacity in machine learning, data mining and responsible AI solutions for local sectors. As Principal Investigator of the Transformative Artificial Intelligence Research and Innovation Lab he continues to lead projects funded into the mid-2020s that develop ethical AI talent, high-performance computing resources and practical applications in health, agriculture and the environment, while mentoring the next generation of African researchers.
